Multiple resource assignment problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am using MS Project to manage task and assign resource.  One problem I have is to assign mulitiple resource to a task.  For example, there are 2 tasks (task A, B) that I need to assign resource.  There are 2 resources (engineer 1, 2) availiable from the group.  Task A can be done by either engineer but work cannot be shared. Task B must be done by engineer 2.  How can I be able to assign resources to mimic this.   The software should be able to adjust the resource availabilty accordingly.

Um, how about assigning Engineer 1 to Task A?  You are leaving us guessing here.  Do these two tasks run in parallel or does Task B start went Task A is completed?  Let us know and we will try to help.

  • Yes, but what is this "problem" you mention?

Just make the necessary decision about who is the most appropriate person for each job and make the necessary assignment.
The software does not make your decisions for you because it does not have the information that you have (and anyway it cannot make decisions) (and it won't manage the project for you, either).
