help needed with xp balank screen! RRS feed

  • hi guys i turned my pc on the other day and the boot screen loads as normal. it gets to verifying DMI pool data then boom! black screen. monitor stays on and doesnt go to standby! nothing just black. and stays like that forever and ever! everything is plugged in as normal ive opened my tower and everything seems ok. i press f8 continually to try safe mode but nothing happens i cant get to my desktop. i have tryed everything! im thinking graphics card! maybe im wrong? i have looked at the graphics card but seems to be going as normal fan spinning and light on! any advise would be great!!! speak to you soon!

  • check the bios, and see if your harddisk(s) are detected?it seems to be a problem with MBR

  • MBR = Master Boot Record.

    Something is trashed on the drive, either the boot files (which can be repaired with the original XP install disk) or the drive itself is toast.  If the drive doesn't show up in the machine's BIOS then the drive itself is dead.  However, even if the drive does appear in the BIOS it might still be bad - all that means is that the drive's electronics are working, the mechanical part of the drive could have failed.
