Whatever the file size that is reported to DPM by inquiring the ntfs file system for the protected databases is what DPM uses to allocate replica size. DPM is going to basically copy the entire SQL database to the replica volume, and we need the free space
on the replica to do that. DPM does not care what is inside the DB, we copy the entire DB. Once we have a copy of the entire DB, we only bring over block level changes for express full backup recovery points.
