SQL DB with whitespace RRS feed

  • Question

  • Within DPM 2010. Is there a way of only protecting the actual data and not the white space. Or is that the way DPM is written. To preallocate replica size to the preallocated DB size

First backing up to a .bak is not an option

  • Hi,

Whatever the file size that is reported to DPM by inquiring the ntfs file system for the protected databases is what DPM uses to allocate replica size. DPM is going to basically copy the entire SQL database to the replica volume, and we need the free space on the replica to do that. DPM does not care what is inside the DB, we copy the entire DB.  Once we have a copy of the entire DB, we only bring over block level changes for express full backup recovery points.
