BAT File Access to Windows 7 File Structure RRS feed

  • Question

  • How come I can open a Windows Explorer window and drag and drop files at will but when I try to access files/folders in a BAT command file, it has no access? I would like to automate a backup operation by just clicking on a desktop shorcut, not have to open a windows explorer window, delete the current backup files and copy the current files.

  • windows file system has changed, many of the file locations are locked by the OS and you see "pointers" (like symlinks in linux) to the real file location.
if you open the location look at the tilte bar it will show the "real" file location.

  • You will also have to open up a command line with administrative permissions. This doesn't happen by default anymore. Even if you are using your original admin account.
