  • Question

  • Hello Everyone - We are using WSUS running on windows 2012 R2. Initially Server 2016 WSUS clients were reporting as windows 2008 and we applied KB3159706 and performed manual steps as per KB. Now server 2016 client are reporting as Windows (Version 10.0).

Any additional patch or hotfix I need to fix this behavior ?

    Thank you,

  • Hi Ad,

There is no patch that I am aware of to correct the behavior on Windows Server 2012 R2 WSUS server.

However, on Windows Server 2016 WSUS server, correct OS information will show, so I suggest you upgrade WSUS OS if possible.

Here is a related thread below for you:

Hi Adnan, can u help me with post-installation of 3159706 update. I can't perform steps 3 and 4 to make changes in the Web.Config file. I get a message "Access is denied". But i assigned ownership of the Web.Config file to the admin group and admin group have full rights on that file. I installed an update and performed steps 1 and 2 and additional steps 1 and 2 in the article. What is wrong?

  • I could change Web.Config file, but after that workstations can't connect to wsus, error 80244008 on workstations. I removed changes in Web.Config file, after that everything is OK, but wsus doesn't determine WS2016.

  • I don't use SSL on WSUS.so didn't modify web.config file

I just performed these manual steps

    1. Open an elevated Command Prompt window, and then run the following command (case sensitive, assume "C" as the system volume):
      "C:\Program Files\Update Services\Tools\wsusutil.exe" postinstall /servicing
    2. Select HTTP Activation under .NET Framework 4.5 Features in the Server Manager Add Roles and Features wizard.
