Mailbox when exported smaller than in Exchange RRS feed

  • Hello all

    Exchange 2003 SP2

    I recently installed a new Exchange 2003 server into the organization then mounted a restored DB (after running eseutil /p) then ran the Cleanup Task and was successful in reconnecting the mailbox to a test user.

    In Exchange System Manager, it shows this user's mailbox size as 9GB with over 12,000 items however when I connected the user to Outlook then checked the folder size and exported to PST, it was only a 50MB file.

    Any ideas on such a difference?

  • When re-connected to the Exchange server, I was using Outlook online that was causing the difference between 50MB mailbox PST export and the recorded size of 9GB in Exchange System Manager. After switching to Outlook Cache mode, the user's mailbox was downloaded to the local machine with the expected size of 9GB. Weird.

  • Hi Zi,

    Before you export to .pst, verify the size of the user's mailbox from client side in outlook by right click on the user@domain then click on the folder size, where you will get all the details of the user mailbox.
