I installed a new hard drive and cloned my old one. When I reinstalled everything back on my new hard drive, Windows Update won't work. I get a message that says "cannot run Windows Update because the service is not running. You may need
to restart your computer." Help?
The first step you could take is running the Windows Update Automatic Troubleshooter tool from
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_update/.
if this does not solve your problem, reset the Windows Update components: read the Microsoft Knowledge Base article
971058.
Have you gone into services and made sure the "Windows Update" service is not disabled and started? You can access services by typing "services.msc" in the run box or command prompt.
