Resident Management Point Issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All,
Few of my server clients have stopped downloading software packages even though they recieve the advertisements policy and are stuck at downloading.

Everything else works in SCCM but that one critical part. It was all working fine before.

After snooping around I find that clients have the correct Assigned Management Point but now these few clients are assigned to a Resident Management Point,  which is MP from other trusted domain. I am sure if machine is not assigned to this 'Resident Management Point', it will work fine. I looked around for overlapping boundaries, but could not find any.

Any way to remove this, 'Resident Management Point', or to force clients to work with Assigned MP only.

Policies are being pulled from Assigned MP only, but for DP client goes to Resident MP and then, it is not getting any correct reply and advertisement is stuck in download for ever.

  • Which version of ConfigMgr are you using? I think that MP affinity was added starting with R2 SP1 CU2 / SP2 CU2 (by using a regkey. In R2 SP1 CU 3 / SP2 CU3 you can also set that in the console). So I would not call it evil, but rather misconfigured.

  • We are not using MP affinity, it is not configured in our environment. But even then some clients are getting assigned with Resident Management Point.

    SCCM version: SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 CU2.

Evil is just a word, don't mean that :) ..

There is lot of complexity in BG, due to mis-configured subnets. But tried quite many things, but even then not able to get rid of assigned management point.

    Any Help will be appreciated.

    MP selection is random then.

  • There is only one MP configured. Also, there is no secondary server configured.

Only one MP available in this domain. Assigned MP configuration is selected correctly.

But it should not get a Resident management for the current configuration, as it is a server and a roaming client.

  • Any script to find out conflicting boundary. I am suspecting Boundary overlap as the issue for this.

  • Have you reviewed clientlocation.log and locationservices.log?

No, there's no magic script to tell you about overlapping boundaries.
