Cannot delete $DATA hidden alternate streams on Windows 10 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a multi boot and if I reboot into any other OS, I can remove $DATA hidden alternate streams, so this is definitely a Windows 10 OS problem.
Access is denied even under real Administrator account under Windows 10.

I usually use this to remove them Streams v1.56 by Mark Russinovich

    I tried a different program:
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/alternate_data_streams.html

But got the same problem... so it's definitely OS related. If anyone knows anything about this, please post.

I first started removing them back in the day to get rid of the annoying Open File - Security Warnings for already downloaded files...

  • Hi c627627KS,

Yes, under Windows 10 there are system files that can't be modified.

Some folders even can't be managed through the take ownership. Mostly those folders are related with system basics, such as boot data and recovery stuffs.

Currently there is no documents that I could share on this topic.

I will share it here if any helpful information found.

    Regards
