Cannot connect to WSUS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

All of a sudden I went to check my WSUS for any updates to approve and I cannot connect to the WSUS console.

    Wondering if someone could assist?

I have removed the console from MMC in an attempt to resolve the issue but cannot reconnect.

    WSUS Service is running?

Look forward to your reply's to assist me.

  • Hi brimanyo,

Check if there are any error record in the Event Viewer>Customer Viewer>Server Roles>WSUS.

Also check the WSUS log files locate in C:\Program Files\Update Services\LogFiles, check file change.log and SoftwareDistribution.log. Check if there are errors recently.

You may also post the recent log here for troubleshooting.

    Best Regards,

    Anne

The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API. Verify that the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service. The WSUS administration console has encountered an unexpected error. This may be a transient error; try restarting the administration console. If this error persists, Try removing the persisted preferences for the console by deleting the wsus file under %appdata%\Microsoft\MMC\. • Pretty much the same scenario for us. Ran Windows Update on our WSUS server on 5/10 and it is hosed. In addition to info provided by Alex we also have the following in the event log:

WebHost failed to process a request.
     Sender Information: System.ServiceModel.ServiceHostingEnvironment+HostingManager/55361480
Exception: System.ServiceModel.ServiceActivationException: The service '/ClientWebService/client.asmx' cannot be activated due to an exception during compilation.  The exception message is: This collection already contains an address with scheme http.  There can be at most one address per scheme in this collection. If your service is being hosted in IIS you can fix the problem by setting 'system.serviceModel/serviceHostingEnvironment/multipleSiteBindingsEnabled' to true or specifying 'system.serviceModel/serviceHostingEnvironment/baseAddressPrefixFilters'.

Debating now whether to try rolling back on the updates or just rebuild from scratch. Either way, 2 days lost production. Some irony in this.

  • Mine did the same thing, I removed 3159706 and it came back in the console, now I'm going to try a reinsitall of the patch and the manual steps listed here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3159706

Installed 3159706 Rebooted Completed all the manual steps: WSUS loaded up just fine.
