Firefox throws an error when stsnavigatewithcheckoutalert is called onMenuClick RRS feed

  • Question

  • In a publishing page document library, when the user selects edit properties it throws a server error in firefox.  Works fine in IE8 and a message pops up asking them to check out the file.  How do I get it to work in Firefox?  Thanks.

  • Hi hackyhack,

As we can check the official reference: browser support for SharePoint Server 2007.  Firefox is listed under Level 2 Web browser.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263526(v=office.12).aspx

To edit the document that requires to be checkout for editing, user have level 2 web browsers must check out the file in the client application. And to save the changes, user also must check the file in after the edits are complete.

In another word, we can only open the document from client application by clicking the document directly instead of Edit menu, then check out the document from client application when we use Firefox.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Is there a way using jQuery to override the onmenuclick in the ID_EditProperties to not call the STSNavigateWithCheckoutAlert and perhaps create a custom message like it does in IE and set the checkout document through the custom message alert?

  • Hi,

Not sure if you already checked, see if you can have "Require Check Out" option set to NO under Library > Settings > Versioning Settings.

Modifying using custom scripts is a tricky area - 1st - its not a supported mechanism and 2nd even if you are able to figure out a successfull overriding script it has the risk of being overwritten by upcoming patches/hotfixes/updates in future, so uunless you can build a supported custom solution that deploys on server side and acts in such a way that it sends modified client side constructs as part of and via supported server side OM code we won't recommend it. Coming up with such custom solutions is typically beyond the scope of forums support.

If this does not answer your question, it might mean answering it requires a more in-depth level of support which is not feasible through Forums.
