server to server trust and licensing issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am upgrading a domain server and have a question on which OS I can use.

The proposed setup is like this:

Server A domain server SBS 2003 with about 20 local users

Server B SBS domain server 2008 R2 with about 10 local users, server is in a separate office

Server C Terminal Server located in Server A domain, SBS 2008 R2 set up as remote desktop server for remote Server B, 10 remote users

There is a Server A to Server B VPN connection set up so the remote users of Server B can use Remote Desktop on Server C.

Now I am upgrading Server A and wonder if I can use SBS 2011 Essentials.  Essentials comes with 25 user CALS which is enough to cover the local domain users.  I wonder if a trust relationship between Server A and Server B means that users in Server B domain will be trusted in Server A domain and therefore do not need a separate CAL?  This would save A LOT of money for the OS and CAL's if it is the case.

    Regards,

    Rick
