Trouble with IE install RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have acquired an HP G50 laptop.  IE was not present in the programs, only google chrome.  I cannot download ANY version of IE to the PC!

Every time I try, I get an error message saying that "This version of IE is not compatible with this operation system".  I'm running Windows 7,

    64-bit.  PLEASE HELP!

    I'm running Windows 7, 64-bit.

Then it probably already has  IE9  pre-installed but hidden.

Open  Windows Features  and see if you have an item for   Internet Explorer 9  there unchecked.   If so, check it.   That will be all that you will need to do to "install"  IE9.   It will not make IE your default browser unless you want to take that second step.

To check which version of IE browsing functionality that your OS has installed use  System Information (msinfo32.exe) for its  Loaded Modules display.   Sort the list by Version descending and see whether you have IE modules which are version 8.0 or (more likely) 9.0   That would be an indication of which version of IE you would have when you made it active and unhidden again.
