In 1710 search has stopped working!

Question

I can search using a custom folder but if I try to search on the search bar "No Results / Fine more on the server". (There is no server, it's just the PST). It isn't even saying that indexing is in progress.

Hi,
Is there any other user affected by the same issue in your orgainzation?
I couldn't reproduce this issue when testing in my Outlook 2016 1710 build. Is there any special step I need to pay attention to when testing?
Does this issue continue if we try starting Outlook in safe mode? Press Win key + R to open the Run command, type outlook /safe and hit Enter.

Steve Fan

Search works in safe mode because it doesn't use the Windows search engine. That helps isolate the problem but doesn't solve it. Ideas for how to isolate the problem

Just did indexer trouble shooting for email and it said there's a permission problem. But nothing changed -- will check back in a while. In any case it shouldn't say "no result" but instead give a warning. So don't think it's a fix but will see ...

Trouble shooter didn't help at all.
Still having the problem. In the past when Outlook failed it would say trying. This time it isn't even trying.

Correct. Windows search is disabled when starting Outlook in safe mode.
Does it happen with all PST file or just the particular PST file? Have you tried testing with other PST files? Maybe you can try using the Scanpst.exe tool to scan and repair the PST file and then try testing again. For your convenience:

Did a scanpst just in case - but it's all PSTs and if I look at search it says 33000 items waiting to indexed and indexing has indexed 750000 so far and Outlook is included

Mysteriously it started working last night. Glad it did but not comforted that I have no idea why.
