Proper method to upgrading Management Packs in SCOM 2007 R2

Question
-
Hi All,
My company is running SCOM 2007 R2 without any CU's
I have version 6.0.6794.0 of the Windows Server Operating System Monitoring Management Pack installed alongside Exchange, SQL, AD, DNS, IIS, TS and 2008R2 DHCP MP's
I am wanting to update to Win Server MP 6.0.6958.0 but am a bit confused given the "OM2007_MP_OS2008.doc" states:
"You should import the Windows Server Operating System Management Pack before using any other management packs such as Microsoft SQL Server, Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), and Internet Information Services (IIS)."
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
As Blake Mengotto wrote, upgrade to latest CU - Kevin has a blog, how to upgrade to CU5 http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2011/08/03/opsmgr-2007-r2-cu5-rollup-hotfix-ships-and-my-experience-installing-it.aspx
But CU6 has just been releashed, I believe Kevin has a blog how to upgrade to CU6 soon.
.............remember to backup your DB's and MP's before upgrade and before import of new MP's :-)

HI
"You should import the Windows Server Operating System Management Pack before using any other management packs such as Microsoft SQL Server, Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), and Internet Information Services (IIS)."
The reason the document states this is logical rather than technical. When deploying SCOM, it is logical to deploy the Windows Management Packs first and tune them before moving onto applications and services that rely on the windows operating system.
You already have one version of the windows MP so to "upgrade", just import the new version. Some MPs will have dependencies on other MPs and can't be imported until the MPs they depend on are imported. But the windows MP doesn't have any dependencies in this regard.
More info on the new Windows MP:
The Management Pack doesn't have any dependency on cumulative update 6 but I'd agree with the others that you should move to this - when you are looking to upgrade to SCOM 2012, your SCOM 2007 R2 environment must be CU4 or later.
Cheers

Why are you not at the latest CU and or previous CU's? I am not sure but the latest MP update might require other mp updates and those might only work with later versions of SQL, but you would have to check the guides.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Might be a case of replicating 2007 R2 PROD in TEST and seeing how things go.Friday, May 18, 2012 4:41 AM -

Thanks dktoa for the info,
Is CU6 cumulative (I assume it contains all the fixes from CU1 - CU5)??

Hi,
Yes, it is cumulative
"Cumulative Update 6 for Operations Manager 2007 R2 includes all previous cumulative updates for Operations Manager 2007 R2 and includes all cross-platform updates."
