KB2756920 causes FAST administration to stop responding RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,

A security fix that was issued a few days ago by Microsoft is having some serious consequences to FAST administration.

Either when issuing a powershell command, or using Admin UI, you will receive the well known error of "Unable to communicate with administration service" or "cannot communicate with WCF service".

Search will continue to work properly, both indexing and querying.

An uninstall from all farm server (SP,SQL,FAST) will resolve the issue.

You will see the following errors at the event log of SP2010 server:

The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.FSDictionaryManagementJobDefinition (ID 5feeebae-1832-4630-bc83-ecc3041b4976) threw an exception. More information is included below.

Failed to communicate with the WCF service.

The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.FSAlternateAccessMapJobDefinition (ID 93c9effe-d130-426a-92ac-bcc6b2550746) threw an exception. More information is included below.

Failed to communicate with the WCF service.

And the following on your FAST servers:

WebHost failed to process a request.

    Sender Information: System.ServiceModel.ServiceHostingEnvironment+HostingManager/42715336

Exception: System.ServiceModel.ServiceActivationException: The service '/KeywordService.svc' cannot be activated due to an exception during compilation. The exception message is: Method not found: 'System.String System.ServiceModel.Activation.Iis7Helper.ExtendedProtectionDotlessSpnNotEnabledThrowHelper(System.Object)'..

  • Update:

Might also cause, when installed on SQL servers that hosts the crawl databases, for an incremental crawl to return all errors on SP content sources.
