Windows 7 keeps rebooting RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows 7 automatically updated a few days ago and since then it has been rebooting. The reboot gets as far as the welcome screen where it says it is configuring windows, then it starts all over again. I let this happen 10 to 12 times and I turned it off. How do I fix this?

Answers

  • boot from the Windows 7 DVD or Windows Recovery Environment (F8) and run the command prompt and run this:

    DISM /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions

(replace C: with the drive where you installed Windows 7)

This reverts all pending Update operations. Now you should be able to boot to Windows 7. In Windows 7 run sfc /scannow and the System Update Readiness Tool [1], to fix broken and damaged files which prevenbt you from installing updates.
