  • I found this in another forum that cured the problem for me:

Solution is actually pretty simple. Go to Windows update. Click on change settings (on the left). Check
"never check for updates." Remove any other checks (Recommended update and
any other). Then go back to Defender and run the Updates again. Version
downloaded should read 1.15.2336.7. It will also download a couple? of
Windows updates. After, don't forget to go back to Win updates and change
back to auto setting. Good Luck.

  • Thanks very much. It worked for me.

The MS site advice is a complete mislead!!-Advices to Rename SoftwareDistribution folder!! Rather a tortuos route I suppose if they are correct.

One has to go back to chek the Auto updates and recommended updates and then

has to download the following from MS :to receive updates for windows and other products.

    Very helpful your suggestion daconnor.

  • Does this not defeat the purpose of utilizing "Automatic" for windows updates,  in other words, do i have to do this solution each time i have pending updates? or is it only this update that would be affected?
