Rename Built In Local Admin and Change Password RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

    I'm trying to assemble the parts and pieces to identify the built in local admin account (SID = *-500 kind of thing), rename it to a standard new name, and set the password.

    Feels like a combination of

    Get-LocalUser or

    Rename-LocalUser -SID "*-500" -NewName "XADMIN"

    and then

    I know this is fairly generic, but it's probably something simple.

  • so what error are you getting? I'm not sure you can rename the default admin user.

  • Using the wildcard on the SID is not working. That's really my issue is that I need to pull the SID of the default local admin, rename it, and set the password. Thanks for the reply. Sorry if this is a horribly dumb question.

  • Get-LocalUser | where {$_.sid -like "*500"}
