Allowing 'Fast Login' RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Guys

We want the welcome screen to appear on startup and for both users to appear with the option to login to either. Obviously only those that know the correct password is required for either. We have a User account and a Admin account to login. We also want to be able to use 'Fast User Switching'. As we regularlly need to access either.

I went into the Control panel and re-enabled this.....but when I click onto the User account login in the welcome screen after choosing 'switch users' and enter the correct password it starts logging in but doesn't go any further. So questions are

    1. How can we allow this

    2. Is this a security risk by allowing it?

Also one other thing. Does disc protection allow us to encrypt the whole hard drive on shut down and unencrypt on startup. The idea being that if the HDD is removed it won't work or be copied. The software we use cannot play/use encrypted files. Any other suggestions welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi BDB,

Hope the following information is useful:

    Turn on Welcome Screen

    ----------------------
    1. Open Windows SteadyState

    2. Click “Set Computer Restrictions”

    3. Select “Turn on the Welcome screen” under “Other Settings”.

    Fast User Switching

    ----------------------

This is an known issue, SteadyState will disable Fast User Switching. You can refer to SteadyState’s readme.txt

    SteadyState readme.txt
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/8/C/78C3C3AA-A091-46BB-92A3-A74EBD2DC517/Readme.txt

    Encrypt the hard drive

    ----------------------

SteadyState doesn’t have this feature. Please also understand that if the whole hard drive is encrypted, the decrypt key will not be accessible either. In  that case, decryption will be impossible. In addition, it will take a very long time to perform the encrypt/decrypt tasks.

    Best regards,
