Windows One LiveCare behind a Hardware Firewall RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a domain user running Windows Vista Ultimate on a laptop that has Windows One LiveCare installed.  The program works normally and is showing as green across the board when not logged onto the network.  When connected to the LAN, Windows Live OneCare shows as red with the following messages listed under "Actions to take"

Update your virus and spyware protection
Your virus and spyware definitions files are out-of-date.  Your computer may be at risk.  To fix this, click "Updatenow" or try restarting your PC.

    Update Windows Live OneCare
An error has prevented Winows Live OneCare from installing a required upgrade.  Please restart your computer.  If OneCare still does not start or you receive this message again, contact support.

The Update Now button is greyed out.  I have gone through all of the items in the Get Help listing and have not been able to correct this issue when the laptop is on the network.

There is one Domain Controller running Windows 2000 Server.  There is a hardware firewall in place (a SonicWall TZ-170).  My thoughts are that, since Windows One LiveCare works when the laptop is not plugged into and logged onto the domain, that the SonicWall is blocking some type of communication.

Can anyone suggest a solution so Windows One LiveCare will work properly?  I would like to keep both the firewall on the laptop and the hardware firewall working for added security.  Thanks.

  • Do you restrict outbound traffic ? Take a look at the SonicWall's logs.
