HDMI full recognition - sound and video RRS feed

  • Question

  • As soon as i connect my ACER ASPIRE 5738 NOTEBOOK to any HDMI compatible device i get picture immediatly but no sound, when i bought the laptop it came with windows Vista and an upgrade package to windows 7, i did the upgrade and since then it will not output HDMI sound, is this a typical issue or is there something more devious going on, would it be BIOS related or simple computing settings. i have updated all of the drivers and chipset family and used older drivers and chipsets, this is one for all you tech guys who are capable!!!!

    Help me please!!!!!!!!

Is it now possible to activate the HDMI connection to recognise both video and audio please?

  • Hi holmroad,

If you only use that HDMI device as an extra monitor, the device will only give you the picture, the sound is from your computer, it's an expected behavior.

If this HDMI device also has sound output, like Jarhead said, go to your Control Panel  - Sound, to change the sound from this HDMI device.

    Regards,

    Miya

  • I had the same problem, I had to go into control panel (sound) and make HDMI my default sound setting and now it works fine.

  • Thanks for your replies, but now been told by Acer that their HDMI in this siyuation does not suppoert sound - odd?

NB also:- The HDMI does not appear at all in Device Manager despite laptop actually providing video - but not audio, so no HDMI to select there!

The laptop was provided under Vista but with the  option to update to Windows 7 - which I did!

  • Since this HDMI device doesn't support sound, we cannot get it work.
