iPad issue with forums RRS feed

  • Question

  • I figure I should start a new thread to differentiate from the 'no keyboard' issue.

Trying to use my iPad to read the forums:

Before I sign in, I can browse, read messages etc.  I've not tried everything, but it's fairly stable.

Once I sign in, I can usually (but not always) get to the category list. Less often I can get to the thread list.  but eventually everything leads to a "Server Error in '/Forums' Application.

My wife won't let me bring my "full-tower" desktop machine to bed, so please fix the iPad issues and save my marriage ;-)

Record some details.   E.g. if it is only a 404 there may be a workaround.

BTW I have not seen either device but imagine that the one you are having trouble with is bigger than the iPhone?   Does the server change its presentation for either one?   Or are you just forced to scroll around in a small view port, according to the magnification level and text size that you choose?

  • I can't speak for the iPhone... I still use a RAZR V3.   The iPad screen is 1024x768 and can be rotated.  Problem happens in either orientation.

As far as details on the error, I can only provide what I'm given.  I captured 3 screen shots in portrait mode since that shows almost the complete page.

Note that clicking HTML did open a new browser window, but new window contained the error.

I have the same problem with my iPad... Lots of errors, especially when I login.

Something like this (but then for '/Forum'):

Is what is suggested there for for "remote" diagnosis possible on your device?   <eg>

  • Yes it's possible, but not by me...somebody who runs 'social.msdn.microsoft.com' would need to make those changes.  It's gotten better recently but still not perfect.  Now I can (mostly) read without the random failures.  Replies are a different story, but I've been too lazy to write up a clear report about it.

  • Looks like telerik doesn't support ipad/iphone, they documented code on detecting the browser and swapping out the ux, which we'll look into. So people can at least use forums.

You can use forums only as a passive reader or as one of those annoying people who only ever ask questions and never provide answers.

That's because while you can read forum posts and sometimes start new threads (seems to vary) you can't ever reply to forum threads.

As for moderating forums with an iPad. That is completely impossible except for checking to see if you need to fire up a normal PC because of something like an off-topic post or spam you want to get rid of immediately.
