My Documents Redirect Problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • In Win 7 under Libraries then in the "Documents" folder i attempted to re-direct the location of the sub folder labeled "My Documents".
In error I entered another folder that was also named My Documents from a different drive.
A window popped up saying it couldn't redirect to a folder witthe same name.  I clicked OK and the box closed
Now, there is no folder there in that position under "Documents".  There is only a blank box with no label or name.
Clicking on the box pops up a small box that says "Expand"
Clicking that "Expand" box causes nothing to happen.
Further, The companion folder labeled "Public Documents is still there
How  can i reverse and again see the folder "My Documents" under the folder Documents

  • You should be able to change the location of "My documents" by starting the registry editor (regedit.exe) and browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer and the at both Shell Folders and Users Shell Folders change the path for the value "Personal" to the path you want to use for My documents.
