office communications server 2007 R2 - the clients cannot see the users in AD [but can see the users in outlook contacts] The odd thing is I can see the universal distrubution groups in AD. When I run the abserver -regenUR and abserver -syncNow it runs successfully with 1 warning. [pasted below]
Also, I deleted the GalContacts.db on the client, and it does update to the client again.
I know this error below has to do with the telephone entries in AD - but not all users even have a telephone entry, I would think I should be able to at least see those entries.
“One or more phone numbers failed to normalize.
320 total numbers failed to normalize. They are listed in the text file: 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2\Web Components\Address Book Files\Files\Invalid_AD_Phone_Numbers.txt'
Cause: One or more phone number attributes in Active Directory contained text that could not be normalized. Normalization rules are contained in the optional Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt file located in the output location or in the generic rules built into Address Book Server. Refer to the documentation for a description of the built-in generic normalization rules. Use the ABServer -dumpRules command to see all the rules that Address Book Server is currently configured with.
Either create a Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt file in the output location and make sure it covers all cases found in your Active Directory deployment or fix the invalid phone number(s) in the Active Directory record(s).”Thursday, September 03, 2009 7:11 PM
There are two problems:
1) This event indicate which the number in "Telephone" properties of user on active directory are not correct:
2) Your coomunicator not syncronize address book:

I should have noted that I am running IIS 7 - so the IIS interface is different than the docs I am seeing.
Also - I do not have any snch errors on the client - and it does see the universal distribution groups in AD when I search.
when I go to https://<pool.domain.com/Abs/Int/Handler/D-0c5a-0c60.dabs from the client - I can download the file. So it seems the certificate and authentication is working.
So one of my questions is - when typing in a name in the search area of the client - is the client searching the locally downloaded GalContacts.db file - or is it querying AD? From what I understand - it is looking at the local file only?
When I open theGalContacts.db with notepad - I can see users in the file.Friday, September 04, 2009 6:03 PM
MOC will ways search in local file.
You can't open GalContacts.db with notepad it's encrypted. You can use:
abServer.exe -dumpFile input-file [output-file]
Dumps the input file given as the first argument, formatted as text, to the output file given as the second argument. If the second argument is not given, the output file name defaults to the same path and file name as the input file with a .txt extension appended.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb936631.aspx
