Unexpected error in Silverlight Application is thrown when creating a new site, new document library or new list

    Question

  • It works if we turn this off:

    1. Navigate to Central Admin > Application Management > Manage Web Applications.
    2. Select the web application having the issue and click General Settings on the ribbon.
    3. Change Web Page Security Validation from Off to On. Click OK to close the window.

But that causes problems, so we can't do that. We have to uninstall silverlight on a computer to add sites, libraries or lists. We run claims authentication with negotiate and are patched up to the August 2011 hotfix. How can we have both silverlight, leave security validation to off and be able to add sites?

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

Silverlight application is unable to connect to the WCF endpoint configured by the product for enabling Client Object Model, if Security validation is set to Off.

So if you get an error "An unhandled exception occurred in the Silverlight Application in SharePoint 2010" when you try to create a document library, list, site or anything in SharePoint 2010 (using new fancy Silverlight control), then it could be that security validation has been disabled Webpart Security , enable it, and you will be able to create a doclib/list using the Silverlight controls.

  • By the way you could use SharePoint 2007 url (/_layouts/create.aspx) to create a new site, new document library or new list using old UI.

    http://domain/_layouts/create.aspx

  • Thanks, all! The old SharePoint URL will work. Xue-Mei, yes, we do know turning the validation on fixes it, but as I posted, we can't do that, it causes other problems.
