Important security update will not download or install RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am receiving an error code when trying to download and install an important security download for Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows Vista (KB978262).  I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit version with service pack 2.  I have tried re-installing the service pack again, but this was unsuccessful.

    Installation date: ‎21/‎05/‎2010 8:13 AM

    Installation status: Failed

    Error details: Code 8007065E

    Update type: Important

Security issues have been identified in ActiveX controls that could allow an attacker to compromise a system running Microsoft Internet Explorer and gain control over it. You can help protect your system by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

  • I would also like to let you know, all of the “Failed” upgrades have a sections to “get more information” if you would click on that, follow the links to manually download the upgrade, much of the time this will solve the problem. From time to time you will also get “you system doesn’t need this file/ upgrade” if you get this, do not worry about it. It means that your system has been updated with another file the over wrote this one.
But, if you would just check the update errors, you can click the links that will save you a lot of time. Just because an update failed, does not mean there is actually a problem

  • I have this situation -- getting this same error code, and then manually trying to apply it and it tells me that "my system doesn't need the upgrade".

But -- will it allow other updates to happen, or will it act as a "plug" and not allow other updates?
