Installing windows and other softwares on multiple Machines RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a small LAN of 100 computers and there is one server machine running Windows 2012 server. The machines are not in any domain. I want to install win-7 and other softwares (like compilers, office, PDF readers, etc) on all the machines. Is there some easy way to install this package on all 100 computers without individually doing this for each single machine. Please tell me step wise procedure as i dont know servers at all.

  • Hi

Your best bet will be to use Windows Deployment services. You built one machine and then install all the required software on it. Once its ready run sysprep on it and then capture the image using WDS. Once you have the image you can deploy to the rest computers.

You also have the option to push softwares through GPO but probably above will be the best one for you and once all machines are built, you can use GPO to push further softwares.

    How to install WDS

    Capture and deploying the image

    www.petenetlive.com/KB/Article/0000735.htm   ( Part 1)

    www.petenetlive.com/KB/Article/0000737.htm   (Part 2)

In above he is using win 8 but win 7 will work in similar ways.

Good thing about WDS 2012 it doesn't need to be active directory integrated it can be stand alone.

    Hope this help

    Thanks

  • Since these machines are not joined to domain,

Create a batch file for below script and install.

    Install software on remote computer

    Prerequisites:
Administrative privileges on the system on which you want to install the software
    WMIC (Windows Management Instrumentation Console)
    Text Editor (NotePad, WordPad etc)
Xcopy(for copying installation files into the system)
MSI (Microsoft software installer file of desired software)

    Code:
    @EchO off
    SET /P tsystem=Enter Target system:
    EchO.
    XCopy “\\Source Path\*.*” “\\%tsystem%\target path\*.*” /E /C /H /R /Y
WMIC /Node:”%tsystem%” product call install true,”",”Target Path\MSI file”
    RD /S /Q “\\%tsystem%\d$\Folder name”

  • No. If you already have a DHCP server then no. But DHCP is required for WDS.

    thanks

  • Does this server have to be necessarily a DHCP.

  • No. If you already have a DHCP server then no. But DHCP is required for WDS.

    thanks
