Need to Run the .exe file directly from SharePoint Online document library RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I got a requirement where when you open the link of a .exe file uploaded in SharePoint Online document library, it should not display the message to save, it should show the "Run" button where we can directly run the .exe file instead of saving it and then running it, is that possible in SharePoint Online?

I got few articles which show that it is possible in SharePoint OnPremise.

    https://www.sharepointpals.com/post/how-to-execute-an-exe-stored-in-a-document-library-directly-in-clients-machine-in-sharepoint-2013/

    Kindly suggest.

  • Hi Roopak Sahoo.

That article is referred to on premises SharePoint 2013.
As per Microsoft Documentation (read here), today the default setting is strict and you already cannot switch your tenant to the permissive model; for tenants that switched to permissive in the past things will change: the tenant permissive model will be deprecated by end of 2018, at that point all tenants will be switched to strict.

    Bye.
