Lync and Split Signalling & Media RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Is it possible or has anyone tried to split the signalling and media traffic for enterprise voice? I cannot find any documentation either way and would like to try and achieve this.

    Thanks,

    Alex.

  • What exactly do you mean? Signalling is always going through Lync servers, media traffic is end-to-end whenever possible. When using gateways you can enable/disable media bypass (that means bypassing the mediation server).

Or do you think about different VLANs?

  • Below is how i see media bypass and what we want to do. basically split the media traffic to one gateway and the signaling to another.

  • This is only possible with a specialy SIP adaptation at the gateway. Not sure if mediation server would accept separat IP address for RTP.
