Project server '07 to '10 options RRS feed

  • Question

  • Currently our 2007 project server runs on a VM, and uses SQL express. I understand the limitations, and want to know what options we have for improving performance and implementing missing features.

The options I recognize as being feasible are as follows.

    1. Move the databases to a SQL server and keep Project Server 2007 running as-is on the VM.

    2. Upgrade project server to 2010, project to 2010, and move the databases to a SQL server.

Please tell me if these options are advisable and any recommendations to improve performance and implement missing features (e.g. reporting).

    Thanks

  • It's hard to say without knowing more about your environment, but all things
being equal, I'd recommend upgrading to Project Server 2010.  You could run
it in backwards compatibility mode and keep your Project 2007 desktop investment
    - or upgrade the desktop as well.

...and definitely get off of SQL Express.  Definitely not recommended for
    Project Server.
