  • Question

  • I just found out after 3 days of training in SharePoint Designer the design view is not available in SharePoint Designer 2013.  Does anyone know if this feature will be reinstated.

    Hello,

Sorry but the view designer is removed in SharePoint Designer 2013. It is not in the agenda for the time being on the side of microsoft.

    Cordialy.

  • This is a truly appalling decision by Microsoft. It has not been made plain to begin with and only emerges to most people after they start moving their installations to SP 2013 and that to my mind is reprehensible. Without it, individuals will have to move the centre of gravity of their design ethos more towards the professional developer leaving the notion of Sharepoint as a user level tool (it's not but there you go) completely defunct. In fact, dysfunct.

    Bad Microsoft - bad dog!

What's worse is no third party tool has emerged to replace or be bought out by MS. Opportunity missed! Or maybe its an example of how hard it is to achieve because SharePoint is such a strange product.

  • Then MS needs to fix their SPD 2013 agenda. This is the worst customer support decision I've seen lately.

  • Reading between the lines it probably was a 'nice to have' but it wasn't easy or practical to do it well so they dropped it. That sort of rendering is tricky to do without having a full browser working on it, heck even with browsers you have issues. Making that work, and cross connecting that view to an editor pane is really quite hard work. It didn't work that well in 2010 when you pushed it and i suspect they just couldn't get it working in 2013 at all.

However I do agree, i was really irked when they dropped the GUI pane from 2013. In the three years since (yeah, you're a bit late to this party) i've gotten used to it. A lot of the stuff i used to use SPD's page view for is no longer relevant, no more XSLT to work with, all JavaScript.
