ADFS Geo-redundant implementation with SQL Merge replication RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We are building a new ADFS service in Azure and we plan to migrate our on-prem farm to the cloud. We have more than 100 RPs so WID is not an option, we are going to use SQL for the backend DB.

One of the benefits we are trying achieve by moving to azure is to get redundancy across regions and smart global balancing via Azure Traffic Manager. So basically we plan to build something similar to this:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/es-es/azure/active-directory/active-directory-adfs-in-azure-with-azure-traffic-manager

As there are not many details about the DB back-end in the article, we've decided to use SQL with merge replication. All was crystal clear and to make it better 3 weeks ago I found a pretty good article with detailed steps about this setup but, (oh joy!) this article is no longer available:

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server-docs/identity/ad-fs/operations/set-up-geographic-redundancy-with-sql-server-replication

That was going to be my reference but, as it went a way, I wonder if any of you knows another good reference to follow (tried Google'ng but not much luck) or if you can tell me your personal experiences using merge replication for ADFS. Apart from some readings, never done SQL Merge replication before and don't know if  there's any special consideration for the ADFS setup (wish still have that article).

I know it's a bit generic question but any help is welcome.

    Thanks.
