How to enter planned amount of work for a delayed task RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Please advise on how can I specify  that several resources  completed 100% of their planned work on a task that has been delayed.

In other words, supposed there is a fixed unit  3-day task with 2 resources R1 and R2 assigned at 100% capacity each with a  planned work of 48h (R1=24h and  R2 = 24h).

Then due some circumstances the task is delayed for 2 days. So the new duration is 5d and the new work is  80h (R1=40h and  R2=40h)

How can  I specify that even though the task was delayed 2 days (5d -3d), each resource actually worked their planned work, that is, 24h each, and not the work based on the new task duration due to the delay?

    Thank you,

    Akex

Set the Task Type for this task to Fixed Work to "lock" the Work values so they do not change.  Then change the Duration to 5 days.  This will now show that the task is a 5-day task but with only 24 hours of Work assigned to each of the resources.  From here, you can now mark the task as completed.

  • Hi Dale,

    Thanks for the reply.

Can you please also explain of how to achieve the same result by not changing the task type to fixed work, that is, for the fixed duration and fixed units tasks.

    Thank you,

    Ale

No, what you want to do is not possible without using Fixed Work as the Task Type.  After the task is completed, why does it matter what the Task Type setting was?  Hope this helps.
