Migration or coeexistance of 2 sites in one AD environment RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've a question about the migration or coexistence of 2 sites in one AD environment

We have for now a SCCM 2012 R2 environment we manage Windows 7 Systems with it OSD - Patch management and Internet Based Client Management is implemented. The Active directory is extended and we don't use a Boundary Group for Site assignment
We want to Deploy OSD windows 10 to only new computers
For that we want to implement a new SCCM CB 1610 (based on Server 2016 and SQL 2016) environment create the Windows 10 image , make sure that OSD - Patch Management and Internet Based Client Management will work and afterwards deploy Windows 10 to our new workstations
After a few month's we intend to migrate all Windows 7 management from SCCM 2012 to SCCM CB
We don't want to use the upgrade mechanism because we want to start with a good design and product

    I have a few questions
Is the scenario above supported is this coexistence supported
Will we have problems with Clients Assignment to the correct site

    Thx in advance

    Regards

    Johan

Answers

  • Yes, supported and works. Overlapping boundaries for Content Location are supported (but not for site assignment). Boundary/Groups for site assignment are only needed if you want to use SMSSITECODE=AUTO (which is not needed at all).

  • Thx Thorsten

We have the same boundaries (for content location)

    One more question pops up

So we need to make sure that both sites do not use client push and we need to add the SMSMP property in the Setup Windows and ConfigManagerr task in the OSD task sequence for both sites so that new clients will assign to the correct Site

    regards

  • Hi All

Is it advisable to add the SMSMP parameter on both sites (into the OSD task sequence) , or is publishing to AD enough to keep the clients into the correct Site

    Thx in advance

    Regards
