Project Server 2013 copy PWA site RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

We are using project server 2013, we have configure the PWA site with PDP, views ,custom fields and reports. We need to have another PWA site for other section, which need to be a different site. Is it possible to copy or clone the existing PWA site and create a new site with the same configuration (PDP, views , custom fields and reports).

    Thanks in advance, Taj

  • Hi Taj,

The Playbook used to do that, but it was for PS2010. That being said, it might work as well for PS2013.

Otherwise FluentProBook also allows performing copy-paste of configurations.

For the report, dependeing on what report you create and how you did, it might just be a matter of changing the settings of  the reports to point on the new instance.

    Hope this helps,

  • Hi Guillaume,

Thanks for your response. I will rephrase my question to clone the site. We have sharepoint site http://site with 'wss_content' content database. We have configured the Project Web App as http://site/pwa with the 'PWAWebAPP' database.

    Question #1

We need to have another site http://site/fin whether the following steps work

    1. Backup and restore the 'PWAWebAPP' as 'PWAWebAPP'_Fin

    2. Create a new Project Web App under http://site as http://site/fin with 'PWAWebAPP_Fin' database.

    3. Delete the existing project from http://site/fin

Since I am using the same content database 'wss_content' for http://site/pwa and http://site/fin. While deleting the project from http://site/fin whether it will delete the project workspace/sites from http://site/pwa .

    Question #2

OR whether the below steps will work

    1. Backup and restore the  'wss_content' as  'wss_content_1024'

    2. Create new site   http://site:1024 with content database 'wss_content_1024'

    2. Backup and restore the 'PWAWebAPP' as 'PWAWebAPP'_Fin

    3. Create a new Project Web App under http://site:1024 as http://site:1024/fin with 'PWAWebAPP_Fin' database.

    4. Delete the existing project and sites

    Thanks in advance, Taj

  • Hi Taj,

restoring a content database to a different webapp won't work because the database id is kept withing the database. So, an external tool may be the only way to do this.

  • Hi taj,

Easiest is to create a separate farm and with copies of PWA databases.

Sven is correct about database ID, however you can mount content database using PowerShell and AssignNewDatabaseID to get around this.    However, if cloning a somewhat blank PWA instance, I would just create a new content site and provision copies of the PWA databases
