DHCP Option 252 WPAD through Windows Server 2012 R2 DirectAccess RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hallo!

I hope anyone can answer my question. We are in the planning phase of Windows Server 2012 R2 DirectAccess. So far so good. We plan also to configure Internet Explorer with wpad but we do not want to remove the wpad block in DNS. We want to set the Option 252 in DHCP. And now my question for which I cannot find an answer:

Is it possible to use this option for DirectAccess Clients? Users in the wild should automatically configured no proxy to be able to use Hotel WLAN and so on. But if the DirectAccess tunnel works they should use the wpad file. We only use wpad because winhttp do not work with pac files.

How do you set such configurations?

Thanks for help! This is really a showstopper!

  • Hello,

Let's break this show stopper with a blog post of an MVP colleague of mine () : http://blog.concurrency.com/infrastructure/web-filtering-for-directaccess-users-55/

It worked with TMG, it should with any other proxy. It rely on DNS WPAD record (not possible with DHCP as DirectAccess clients does not contact internal DHCP server to request an IPv6 address).

    Hope this help.
