  • Question

  • I had an old version of GPMC that was working perfectly until I installed service pack 1. Now when it opens I get a message in the right pane that says MMC could not create the snap-in. What's the deal on this?

  • Have you researched the compatibility of this older version with the changes introduced by SP1?

Some programs that were previously compatible may, in fact, no longer be compatible due to some of the changes at the kernel level.

  • Hello. My problem is, that I can't find GPMC anywhere in Vista Ultimate SP1 x64. In mmc, I see only GP object editor, but not GPMC. Overall, I'm trying to update Vista group policy settings in my 2003 domain enviroment and as I read all instructions, only way to create Vista-based objects is through Vista machine.

  • Ohh, I already read about GPMC disapparing after SP1 upgration, and I installed some administrative tool pack, but still I have no GPMC available.

  • I gave up on it. I never could get it to work on Vista. I installed it on my XP laptop and use that when I need it.

Could you even open it from MMC?

  • I've read this instructions and there is a few screenshots where you can see Vista's GPMC window. Damn.... how I can now update my domain's gp? I don't have 2008srv.

  • I managed to do this, now I can configure Vista group policy on 2003 domain. I installed some remote admin tool pack for Vista and I go new GPMC from it. If somebody can't open GPMC, it could be because it cannot connect to domain. Keep in mind, that in client-site you have to connect to the domain policy manually.
