Does sharepoint send email only if email id is stored as WorkEmail? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are sending emails from sharepoint 2013 declarative workflow. In our environment, users having "WorkEmail" as well as "UserPrincipalName". Both WorkEmail & UserPrincipalName are different values but they are SAME one exchange email account.

    For Eg: WorkEmail=First.Last@domain.com & UserPrincipalName =FLast@domain.com

In fact above both IDs are equals (WorkEmail=UserPrincipalName )& user can login to their email account using any of them.

Now Problem is, IF we are fetch user's Email Address(WorkEmail) in workflow and sending email to it then user receiving that email, Its working. BUT If we fetch user's UPN in workflow & sending email to it then email is not receiving in users email account. There no any error in workflow, workflow not getting suspended, workflow get completed successfully. (Then I tried to store UPN in workemail and then send email to workemail then it works.. email receiving!!!)

I googled & found similer thread on msdn which say sharepoint send email based on email address stored in User Info List. below is thread

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/d17a246e-266a-40bc-91db-6d61f79e7ca8/unable-to-receive-email-alerts-from-sharepoint-server?forum=sharepointadminlegacy

So, Does sharepoint send email to user's workemail only? Please help.

Answers

  • Yes, in my experience SharePoint does not use the UPN value to send emails even if it is a valid email address.  You must have the Work email field populated with an appropriate email address.
