Failed to register Server 08 key RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

I have recently purchased a new server and bought server 08 with 70 CALS and 20 Term CALS for it. I asked my reseller for a 08 disk so that i could go ahead with the installation while i wait for my cd keys etc. I have since received my keys, but they dont appear to be valid. the cd i used is a server 08 standard. the keys say: Windows server 08 std/E DMK: XXXXX-

I have just spent the whole weekend installing our software and moving the data across from the old server, and now I am faced with this. I suspect that the version that i have installed does not correspond with my keys? If this is the case would there be any way for me to change the version without having to do a reinstall?

  • Hello JP Rheeder,

Open an elevated cmd prompt and run slmgr /dlv.  This should help identify what is installed currently, including the type of key used.  Can you post the results of at least the Name aand description lines.

Then download and install VAMT 2.0, insert your product key into it.  This should help identify exactly what type of key you actually have. report back what type of key it is

    VAMT link

that helps identify what options are available.
