Shut down option missing RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a computer with vista and I no longer have the option to shutdown my computer from my start menu my only options are log off and lock. I have to log off and shut it down from the log in screen now. How do I get this back as an option so I don't have to waste time logging out every time?

    Hi,

I do not have a Vista machine to guide on the UI, hopefully it is sufficient to resolve your problem.

    • Click Start, then type in gpedit.msc in the Start Search box.
    • At the Group Policy Management Editor, navigate to the following path:

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar

    • Double-click "Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate commands"
    • Select "Not configured" or "Disabled"
    • Close Group Policy management Editor window.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers,

    Tas Chew
