WSUS console - Error occurred trying to access WSUS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I've trying to open the Windows 2012 WSUS server today and I'm met with an error in the MMC saying

'An Error occurred trying to access WSUS'

I've restarted the server which has hasn't helped.

in the event logs it shows this below:

The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API.

Verify that the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service.

The WSUS administration console has encountered an unexpected error. This may be a transient error; try restarting the administration console. If this error persists,

Try removing the persisted preferences for the console by deleting the wsus file under %appdata%\Microsoft\MMC\.

  • Hi TB303,

Please check if you installed KB3159706 on the WSUS server?

If yes, then we need to do manual steps to finish the installation, otherwise, WSUS console will crash. Please check the following article for detailed information:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3159706

    Best Regards,

    Anne

  • Is this a new WSUS installation? I've seen this issue occur if the application pool WSUS is using runs out of usable memory. By default, it is only configured to use a very small amount.

Please check my blog here for more info:
