Project Manager unable to edit project in PWA RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a project manager(PMa) who can not edit "Some" projects in the PWA. PMb has had no issues editing projects.
PMa is a new employee and the account was created in January.  PMb has been a PM since we first implemented Prj Server 2010.

PMa and PMb have the same permissions set:

Available Groups:  IT Manager, Porfolio Managers, Project Managers, Resource Managers and team members.
    The categories are "My Organization"
None of the templates have "Deny" set for any of the persmissions

We have 2 servers, a production server and a test server.

    Production Version:  14.0.6209.1000
Test Version (Upgraded this morning to SP2):   14.0.7015.1000

PMa is having the same issues on both servers, and using different computers.

I am suspecting account corruption, is there a way to verify?  If it is corrupted, how to fix.

  • We discovered the issue to be part of the initial setup.  We gave the new person access to projects from her creation date forward.  This allowed her to access only projects that were created after she started.

Since several of the projects were created before she started, she could not edit them.

Updated to "ALL" projects and she is all set.

  • Are you using RBS for Projects?

  • No we are not using an RBS, nor have we defined one.

Any one of the PMs should be able to create a project, and any one of the PMs should be able to edit and update projects.

  • Hi Darcy,

When you say that PMa cannot edit some projects in PWA:

    • does that mean that he can edit the project in MS Project Pro?
    • what is the behavior in PWA? Any error message? The "Edit" button is greyed out?

Have you ask PMa to connect from another machine? Also try to run a delegation session for PMa and check if you can edit the projects from this delegation session.

    Hope this helps.

  • Project client, can open and edit fields.

PWA the project opens normally, no errors.  The edit button is available and changes when clicked.

He can select a field, but when typing, the characters are not accepted.

Also note:  The project description field, the text is grey.

We have confirmed this issue on 2 different computer systems.

    We have not tried delegation.

  • Hi Darcy,

Can you check for PMa if the Global and Category permissions are set at user level.

  • There were permissions set at the user level.  They are the same permissions that are part of the Project Manager Security Template.

We have now cleared the user level permission, and are letting the categories determine permissions.  No change.

  • Hi Darcy,

Thanks to your additionnal information, we can narrow the issue. It looks like an IE issue not related to Project Server permissions, since the PM can edit the project through Project Pro.

    • Try to connect on a different machine to confirm this
    • Try to connect with a different browser (Chrome) to see if the issue still occurs
    • Clear the IE cache pressing CTRL F5

    Hope this helps.
