SFB backup and Restore Query RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have query on backup and restore of SFB server in case one of SFB server goes corrupt or is down permanently.

We have 2 SFB sites and 2 pools in pool pairing relationship.

Should I go for VM snapshot backup of SFB servers. What is the success rate of restoring from Snapshot backup.

What is  the supported scenario. Is there any article there describing the ways to take backup and restore.

    Thanks

    Pawan

  • Regarding the snapshot, it's not supported but I've seen success with it.  I would avoid this method however unless it's an extremely recent snapshot.

The supported method is to use export-csconfiguration and export-csuserdata via PowerShell for most of it, there are some other commands and guidance is listed here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh202171(v=ocs.15).aspx (it's for Lync, but is the same for Skype for Business).

Lasse has written a script that does all of this and more for you: https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/Backup-Skype-for-Business-8194d0b6#content that can be run as a scheduled task.

  • Hi Pawan11,

    Agree with Athony.

As a supplement, if you have deployed paired Front End pools, if one of these pools fails and becomes unrecoverable, you can restore this pool with a new fully qualified domain name (FQDN) from its paired pool.

The following article describes the best practice for backup and restoration for Lync Server 2013, it’s same to SFB 2015

  • Hi Alice,

We are also planning to migrate Skype for Business servers from one DC to another DC by using double take migration tool. Is this a supported scenario.

    Regards,
