  • You can find this answer via the SharePoint TechNet literature, specifically on this link here: -

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262811%28office.12%29.aspx

Any of the following values can be used with the lock flag:

    • None : Sets the site collection to unlock.

    • Noadditions : Permits changes that reduce the size of the data.

For example, if you had an announcement list item whose body consisted of 50 characters, you could successfully edit the list item so that the body was reduced to 25 characters. However, if you tried to edit the list item so that they body was increased to 100 characters, that would be blocked.

    • Readonly : Sets the site collection to read-only.

    • Noaccess : Sets the site collection unavailable to all users.

  • Maybe I'm missing the question?  Are you asking if features/content types can be turned on/off?  I'd imagine the above aspects still apply.  Activiating/deactivating a content type or feature shouldn't have any real impact on its content or size (unless its something like the publishing features).

Only administrators will be able to edit/activate features like this anyhow.  If that's a concern, even if the lock is in place, you could always demote them.

  • Hi Guys,

As per my analysation on above query, i Found follwing Infromation:when site collection is locked then internally.

          1) Conetent Data Base Table Name 'Sites'

          2) Column Name 'BitFlag' Value  changed based user Selection(like None, noadditions,Readonly,NoAcesses).

if you want to know those values, please go thorugh this link.

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd303537(v=prot.13).aspx

Example:When Administrator is selected 'ReadOnly' for lock a site collection.

Now first it will change database column value and in site collection level some modifications like

    1) under site action no Editpage, ceatesite links it showing only View Allsite Content.

    2)All lists/libraries don't have toolbar(like new,actions,settings buttons).

can any body help me for under standing how the above 2 points  going on share point 2007,when site collection is lock.

    Thanks In Advance.

  • I'm not fully understanding what your issue actually is.  You've got the info about what the lock does.  If it's set accordingly, people will still see the normal permission defined options (add, upload, edit etc), but upon trying to save SharePoint will tell them the site is locked.

If you want to hide all indications or references to editing potential, drop everyone into a read only group.  Security trimming isn't sensitive to the lock status of a site collection as far as I know.
