Windows 10 OS Cannot be found after deploying it within MDT 2013 Update 1. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Afternoon,

I need assistance with Deploying Windows 10 Enterpsie. Currently we are using an existing test Task Sequence we used a while back for 8.1, that I swapped the OS Wims in "Install Operating System" then ran the sequence on a VM. During the imaging process it appears to get pass the Install OS and it goes to Next Phase to restart the machine for the next set, but unfortunately it stays there providing the following error "NTLDR Missing". We did some troubleshooting to make sure it was an NTLDR issue, so the last thing I tried was creating a new barebone task sequence with just the image. Which caused another boot issue stating "An operating system wasn't found". Any ideas on what would cause this, as there are no errors pertaining to this issue in the logs?

I read that it could be having an old version of Windows 10, which I am checking to see where did we get this one from.

  • YOu need to create a new task sequence.  There are changes for 10 that aren't in your old TS.

Logs are very important. If you are unsure how to post logs or where to find them then reference https://keithga.wordpress.com/2014/10/24/video-mdt-2013-log-files-basics-bdd-log-and-smsts-log/ Also if you have made customizations please mention them when asking for help.

  • There is stuff in the XML.  If you have special steps in your old TS you can copy those over to the new TS from the workbench TS UI.

  • Let's start from the top. Are you:

    1. Running MDT 2013 Update 1 (Build 8298)

    2. Running ADK for Windows 10. (WISM should be at ver 10.0.10240.16384)

Take a look at this site for a step by step guide - http://deploymentresearch.com/Research/Post/496/Building-a-Windows-10-Reference-Image-using-MDT-2013-Update-1

  • You were right, We double checked and we had MDT 2013 but not update 1. However a new issue arose! During imaging it gets stuck Applying image and spits an error out, see below. I am looking into it but I just wanted to run it by you all during the mean time.

  • After moving up to the latest MDT version did you create new task sequences? Don't use the old ones.

  • What you are seeing is the bug that was in the 8290 build.  Are you on the 8298 update 1?
