Replication or Mirroring with Shared Point Databases RRS feed

  • Question

  • I understand that Sql Sever replication is not supported with Shared Point, but  I am not looking for high availability, we have some users in Asia and europe and our primary server is in US, we are looking for something where users can make update on local databases, because if they make changes to the servers in US the response time is very slow. what will be the other best option

In my opinion you are looking for the wrong thing. Instead of looking for something to replicate/mirror the system consider "replicating" SharePoint as below.

There is a company called Colligo that sells reasonably priced tools for the off-line use of SharePoint.

    http://www.colligo.com/products/sharepoint/index.asp

[Disclaimer: I have no connection with the company beyond when I was an MVP receiving free test copies of their products]

These tools provide a (basic) SharePoint-like for (for instance) Lists and once the initial creation of the local copy has been made have very efficient sync routines that only transfer differences.

They have two products (for each SP product range) - a free version that doesn't allow local updates and a charegeable product which does. Both have worked well enough for my needs (see again Disclaimer).
