Multi_Boot Operating Systems RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm currently running MDT 2013 and I'm wondering if it's possible to capture an image of a multi-boot system (Windows 7 and Windows 8.1).  Also, I was wondering if it's possible to install more than one OS at a time on a workstation.  I've tried partitioning the drive and installing Windows 7 and 8.1 but haven't had any luck getting the second OS to install on the second partition.  Just wondering if this is possible with MDT.

  • It's *theoretically* possible with MDT (just like the existence of the Sasquatch is theoretically *possible*) but multi-boot is strictly *NOT SUPPORTED* with MDT.

With the addition of Hyper-V in Windows 8, using Virtual Machines for a 2nd OS is a better solution.

  • The only real limiter here is your scripting knowledge.  You can make pretty much anything happen in MDT, but you need to have some scripting knowledge to automate deployment of that second image, and then configure the dual boot with bcdedit.
