    Hi, we have a Lync 2010 system that we currently use for web conferencing and desktop sharing. We also have it hooked to two Exchange Unified Messaging servers when we thought we would use Lync for Enterprise Voice. This never panned out and we decided not to do that. My question is do we still need to have the UM servers as we are looking to retire them and our entire Exchange On-Prem system.

    I get confused where it comes to the Web Conferencing portion which we use a lot. If we create a meeting with a dial in number does that portion use the UM servers in any way? If we remove the UM servers will that portion stop working?

    Could anyone clarify this scenario please?

    Hi Mankney2,

    If you are using Exchange Online, you could configure Exchange online integrate with Lync Server 2010. If you do the integration, you must update your Lync Server 2010 to the latest CU. Then you could achieve your goal.

    Hi Mankney2,

    Lync web conferencing will not use Exchange UM, there’s no effect for the conferencing if you entire Exchange on-premise system.

    As you know, Unified Messaging (UM) provided the features below: allows voice and fax messages to be stored in Exchange 2016 and gives users telephone access to email, voice mail, calendar, contacts, or an auto attendant. If you disable it, you could not use the function.

    In addition, as conversation history is stored in the Exchange Server, if you entire it, the conversation history will not be stored, please also note about this.

    Thank you that was a great answer and answered exactly what I wanted to know.

    Do you know by change if we can somehow send that conversation history up to a Hybrid O365 environment?
