DPM agent is not being installed on the target server RRS feed

  • Question

  • DPM agent is not being installed on the target server. Ports have to be opened on the target machine to get the agent installed. Can anyone tell me which port has to be opened to get the agent installed on target machine.

  • Hi,

I allowed the given ports but still there the agent is not being pushed to the target server.

Also, I allowed all TCP and UDP ports. But the result is same.

The error is 347: An error occurred when the agent operation attempted to create the DPM Agent Coordinator service on target server.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

This can happen if a prerequisite is missing, especially the Windows Management Framework (WMF), please refer to the article below:

DPM Agent install fails with Error 347: An error occurred when the agent operation attempted to create the DPM Agent Coordinator service

  • Thanks

But the problem is that SCDPM server is 2016 and the target server is having Windows Server 2008.

So, WMF version will be used for WS2008 3.0 not 4.0.

    Am I right?

  • You will need to upgrade the WMF to 4.0 on your Windows Server 2008 server.

You can download it from here:
    Windows Management Framework 4.0

  • When running the update for WMF (Windows8-RT-KB2799888-64x ),

    The following is the message received;

The update does not apply to your system.

    Thanks

  • Apologies, you were using Windows Server 2008 non-R2, I missed that, the WMF 4.0 is for Windows Server 2008 R2 or above.

You need to make sure you have .NET Framework 4.0 or newer installed as well:

    Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 (Offline Installer) for Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008 SP2, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2

  • Still the issue is the same.

Now I am trying to install the agent manually, but there is another error occurring i.e.

Installation of a knowledge base article 975759 has failed. This is required for
the DPM agent to function correctly.
Install knowledge base article 975759 from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkI
d=184897, and then try installing the DPM Agent again.
    Check log files in [WINDIR]Temp\MSDPM*.LOG
Press Enter key to close the window

    Thanks

  • The DPM agent installer is failing because a prerequisite is missing, the installer is trying to retrieve the Windows6.0-KB975759-x64.msu, I checked both the Microsoft Update Catalog and the KB article page and this hotfix is no longer available, so this is why it's failing.

This hotfix is however found on the DPM 2016 installation media in the following location:

    X:\SC 2016 SCDPM\DPM2012\setup\redist\Windows6.0-KB975759-x64.msu

Try copying the the Windows6.0-KB975759-x64.msu to your Windows Server 2008 server and install it manually from an elevated Command Prompt, then try installing the DPM agent again.

  • It is also important to open firewall on the destination server otherwise you wont be able to push the agent.

You can use the command bellow. It will allow all communication from the DPM server to the destination server. Make sure to insert your DPM server IP at the end!

    netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="Allow DPM Remote Agent Push" dir=in action=allow service=any enable=yes profile=any remoteip=your_dpm_server_ip

The rule can be disabled/deleted once the agent is installed.
